Buffeljagsrivier is a very small town, consisting out of a church a petrol station and a farming community. From 1730-1790 there was a trading post next to the Buffeljagsrivier from where oxen and cattle were traded.

Buffeljagsriver gets its name from the river that passes through it and joins up with the Breede River. The Buffeljagsrivier dam supplies water to all the farmers in the valley. Citrus and Dairy are the main farming activity in the area.

Buffeljagsrivier is well known for the spectacular views of the local mountain ranges and the peaceful farming  atmosphere.
