It took more than a year of hard work, planning, meetings, applying, documents, re-designing, more meetings, more planning - but the dream is about to become a reality. We are looking forward to the opening of the Swellendam Mountain Biking Trails!
The full support of the Western Cape Government, Swellendam Municipality, Swellendam Plantation and Swellendam Cycle Club is what made the Swellendam Mountain Bike Trails possible.
Petrichor Adventures (Rohan Germishuys, Fleur van Eeden and their team) will be responsible for the building of the trail network.
There will be 5 exciting Mountain Bike Routes from which to choose:
Kids Bike Park
Cross Country Trail
Green Route (13 km)
Blue Route (22 km)
Red Route (39 km)
The Routes will be suitable for kiddies, beginners and experienced riders in a safe and beautiful environment. The trails will be easily accessible from Town and will be well signposted.
Visitors and Tourists will be able to buy a permit. If you are a Friends of Marloth member you will have access to the Swellendam Trail Network.
The Kids Bike Park, Cross Country Trail and the start of the three Mountain Bike Routes will be located in the vicinity of the Drostdy.
The Kids Bike Park and Cross Country Trail will be built on Swellendam Municipality Property. The three Mountain Bike Routes will be on Municipal Property and Plantation and cover most of the area between the town and the mountain, from the Drostdy all the way to the Hermitage Valley.
None of these routes will enter Marloth Nature Reserve.
If all goes well completion of the trail network will be in December 2020.
