Grootvadersbosch Conservancy has some of the best new mountain bike trails in the country. If you rate yourself as an average or above average rider, this should be the destination for your next family trip. Grootvadersbosch Conservancy is located about 20km East of Suurbraak, right next to Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve.
These trails are built on surrounding farms where the landowners have given permission. The amount of effort that has gone into mountain bike bridges etc is very impressive. Races like the TransCape also make use of these trails.
All the routes total about 120km of awesome trails which include a lot of single track. My brother-in-law and his wife has taken part in the Absa Cape Epic, Wines2Whales, Sani2C and Tankwa Trek (to name a few) and feel that these routes are some of the best training they have done. Even though they live in Cape Town they immediately bought a season ticket. Once off entries cost R50 and a season ticket is R300.
After the ride you can go to Paradise Organic in Suurbraak for a Super Berry Smoothie or something to eat. There are also lots of cafes in Suurbraak if you only want to buy a coke and packet of chips. These cafes might not have credit card facilities, so make sure you have cash.
Note: These routes are not for beginners. Expect speeds of 10-15km/hour with lots of climbing in the second half.
